Under 8's v Walsall on   March 2nd 2008

Game 1 Burton Lions 35 Walsall 25

Burton hosted old adversaries Walsall on a bright windy Sunday, the Lions started brightly and soon found themselves 10 point up before Walsall found their stride from this point the game became very end to end, and all about possession Burton’s new found running style came into its own with several cutting runs deep into Walsall territory despite some very big members of the opposition Burton took their chances as well as taking on the Walsall defence head on and with plenty of support available were never going to let Walsall overturn Burtons early advantage.
Try scorers: Oliver Ballyn, Connor Hutchison, Zak Fellows and Liam Ritchie.

Game 2 Burton Cougars 10 Walsall 25

Burton Cougars fielded a very inexperienced side in their first game, but the final score does not reflect the way Burton played they showed a great deal of courage against a side of relative giants. Burton were always playing catch-up but did not allow their heads to drop once, they maintained a good defensive line Walsall found difficult to breach only when extreme pressure was placed on Burton were Walsall able find a space through, Burton also showed that they can also score point with some terrific flowing rugby rewarded with scores from Jak Mumford and Steffan Jones. Well done a performance to be proud of from the new boys.

Game 3 Burton Lions 30 Walsall 30

The Lions second game included several additions from the Cougars and again the team clicked into a competitive unit, Burton once again placed Walsall under pressure from the off. Burton’s dynamic defensive line play is improving week on week and on several occasions forced the Walsall attack into touch as well as committing handling errors Burton Lions showed that their reputation of applying severe pressure to an attack is well deserved and with tries from Millar Pride, Callum Mason, Steffan Jones Zak Fellows and Zak Salt Burton showed a good spread of tries across the experience levels. Well Done.

Game 4 Burton Cougars 15 Walsall 30

Walsall finished on a flurry winning this encounter against Cougars, Burton tried to run the ball wide on several occasions and although the support play was again superb
Burton often ran out of space, when Burton did move the ball down the middle Walsall found themselves clutching air rather than Tags. In defence Burton again showed great spirit with Walsall having to pull the line left and right to create a space before they were able to run in their 6 tries, A valiant performance rewarded with 3 scores from Jak Mumford, Liam Ritchie and Callum Hutchison. Keep up the good work.
