Burton 25 Derby 10 on Sept 30th 2007
Burton's 2007/8 campaign began with a tie against local opposition Derby at the Peel Croft on Sunday,
From the first whistle Burton maintained the form that had served them so well last season, and held a vigorous Derby attack eventually causing Derby to run into touch, from the restart Zak Fellows burnt up the ground in a crossfield run before being tagged, he put in a nice pass to Tyler Smith who sidestepped his way to the touchdown.
Burton now had renewed confidence in their running and Millar Pride made good use of all available ground to run in another try, Derby responded with a good display of flowing Rugby with some excellent passing to score just before the break.
Burton began the second half steadily causing Derby to knock on. From the restart Matthew Shenton bided his time to put in a great pass to Zak Fellows who lit the afterburners and scored in the corner. Derby hit back straight away, as from the restart they found the Burton defence dozing.
Burton settled down and now put a series of passes together which allowed Zak Fellows to finish a wonderful team move with a try.
Derby showed great character and played with determination, the Burton defence held for a long period with some excellent tagging, but a good jinking run from Derby saw them score to make it 20 -15 to Burton. Burton however had saved the best till last, Jak Mumford took the ball from the halfway line, made a fantastic run through centrefield laid the ball up for supporting players allowing Niall Collett to score in the corner. At the final whistle the Burton team can be very pleased with their tagging and support play.

The second game saw three new players in the Burton line up Jake O'Toole, Casey O'Toole and Charlie Lymer.
Burton started the match which was tight defence orientated game, the game moved end to end and Derby looked to have the upper hand but before they could capitalise Casey O'Toole put in a series of fantastic tags that prevented a try from being scored, and ending with a turnover to Burton, from the restart Debutant Jake O'Toole took the ball and made a cutting run through the Derby defence before being tagged, however he kept his cool turned and made a pass to Millar Pride who ran in to score a try.
Derby continued to press making some good headroads however Burtons defence remained aggressive with good tags being made by Burton's other Debutant Charlie Lymer.
Burton's final score was again a wonderful team effort moving the length of the pitch with all players having hands on the ball, Niall Collette put in the last pass making Millar Prides one step over the line to score a formality. A fantastic effort by the whole team but a special well done to the three new boys.
