Loughborough 10 Burton 20 on   Oct 21st 2007

Burton started well but soon found Loughborough an aggressive attacking side. The Crofters defence held tight and N Collette was released to score a much needed try. Loughborough came back strong and Burton had some work to do in defence, J Mumford leading the way with an excellent double tag.

With the pressure released Burton managed to mount a decent attack which ended with N Collette receiving the ball off M Pride to score. Loughborough came straight back and were almost certain to score until a crunching Z Salt body check and tag forced a turn over and saw Burton begin to dominate.

M Pride then showed his dancing feet to continually tease the hosts with run after run, always giving good ball to his support. One of these passes released N Collette to side step his way over the line for his hat trick try. The second half was more of the same with Burton running the show. T Smith scored Burtons final try after some good team work. Burton then eased off to allow the hosts 2 late scores.

Syston 15 Burton 25

Burtons 2nd match saw 4 of their newer players showing their skills. However they found Systons repeated attacks hard work, and despite some dogged defending, N Stone leading the way, they soon found themselves 3 scores down. Despite this Burton kept going and were unlucky not to get on the score sheet by half time.

Burton made three changes at 1/2 time and this seemed to give them some extra attacking options, although it was one of the newer players, L Ritchie, who showed some good powerful running to score twice after the break. M Pride still feeling light-footed again danced around the Syston defence, being rewarded with a try of his own after a strong run saw W Brigden tagged inches short of the line.

The young Crofters captain T Smith then got on the end of another good attacking move to score his second of the day. J Mumford was then rewarded for his hard work in defence, after receiving a clever pass off M Pride, he ran a good line and scored in the corner.

Burton can be proud of their achievements today because despite being under the cosh early on in both games, they showed true heart to end up dominating both games to win the triangular tournament.
