Melbourne 15 Burton Lions 20 on   Nov 25th 2007

Burton started the match with a positive attack, but came up against one of the best defences they have seen this season, and the ball was soon turned over. Melbourne showed they were also a good attacking side and tested Burton's defence, which, led by Z Salt, stood firm. The deadlock was broken when Z Fellows got on the end of a good Burton attack to score. Melbourne quickly bounced back and, after applying constant pressure, they scored twice.

Burton never lost heart and their attacks always looked dangerous, M Pride finally got the reward he wanted when he ran over the try line. Another Melbourne try, quickly followed by a N Collett try saw the game looking like a draw was the most likely outcome, but with the last play called, and W Bridgen over running a tag, Melbourne pushed him to the ground to concede a penalty. After the ball went through every Burton hand Z Fellows scored to steal the victory.

The development team took the field for the second game, and soon found themselves facing a tough challenge. However C Hutchison opened Burtons account with a try. Melbourne were relentless in their attacks though and, despite some aggressive defence by Burton, scored twice before 1/2 time. Burton found it hard to break the Melbourne defence, but the Crofters never gave up and were rewarded with a C Hutchison try. Melbourne finished with a try, but Burton can take heart that they were a good match for a strong Melbourne side.

Melbourne 10 Burton 30

A Mixed side turned out for the final game, and the good work Burton had shown continued with some good running rugby and support play, backed up by good defensive work they soon got off the mark with tries from N Collette and M Pride. Melbourne hit back with a try, only for J Mumford to score before 1/2 time. The 2nd half saw more of the same from Burton and Melbourne seemed to run out of ideas. A M Pride double and a try for Z Fellows secured the game for Burton. There only blot being a Melbourne score in the 2nd half.

This was probably the strongest side the mini Crofters have faced this season, and all of the Burton youngsters can take heart in the way they played today. The defence held some good discipline which enabled some of the best attacking play of the season.
