Burton @ Market Bosworth on November 4th 2007

Game.1: Market Bosworth 1st 0 v Burton Falcons 5

The Falcons seem to be coming up against tougher and tougher opposition as each week goes by. To their immense credit, the Burton Boys simply raise their game another notch to compensate.

Yet again, this match was very closely fought – the first half ending in stalemate and no score.

We had seen excellent tackling from Jacob Abraham, Lewis Kenney, Oliver Corbett, John Robson and Josh Wright.

James North particularly stood out with a fine display – both defensively with at least 10 important tackles and, offensively with some blistering runs.

It was this running which provided North with the opportunity to score the game’s single and decisive try, early in the second half.

This is a team game however and the Falcons demonstrated great desire and passion to lock out the opposition. A long and sustained period of Market Bosworth pressure had to be soaked up - just one metre from the Falcon’s try line. This is exactly what the Falcons achieved with some excellent defensive work from Cameron Scobie, Oliver Corbett and Josh Wright.

The host’s best, and seemingly clear-cut chance to score with a breakaway run was spectacularly snuffed out by a superb flying tackle from John Robson.

Great teamwork Falcons culminating in a superb victory!

Man of the match:      James North (Inspirational work rate and tackling.)

Game.2: Market Bosworth 2nd 0 v Burton Falcons 35

The Falcon’s second game of the morning proved to be a slightly easier affair than the first. This was probably down to the continued high work rate of the visitors. Either way, Market Bosworth were no match and were well and truly overwhelmed.

Brilliant rucking and driving of the opposition was displayed by the likes of John Robson, Cameron Scobie, Josh Ballance and Jacob Abraham.

Oliver Corbett also pulled his weight in another great team effort with some great running and set-up play.

The Falcons coasted in at half-time three tries to the good. One score from Oliver Corbett and a brace from Dominic Phillips.

Corbett went on to bag a further try in the second half, ably supported by John Robson (2) and Cameron Scobie (1)

Scobie’s performance in this game was immense. Excellent running with the ball and superb battling qualities in defence.

Other players of distinction were James North, John Robson and Jacob Abraham.

35 points to nil, a total of 40 points scored over two games without conceding a single try.

Yet again – well done Falcons for a fine team performance!

Man of the match:      Cameron Scobie (Controlled aggression in tackling and ripping the ball plus some fine running.)

Falcons Man of the Series:            James North

Match 3: Market Bosworth B 0 v Burton Eagles 45

Tries: Tommy Collingwood (4), Joshua Hart (3), Alex Dutoy, Connor Wood

Burton Eagles provided the performance of the season in the first encounter with Market Bosworth.  The defence was solid from the off and the tackling relentless.  Time and time again Eagles tackles turned ball over and full advantage was taken.  Joshua Hart ‘skipton’ and ran in two early tries following tackles from William Hulbert and ‘bacup’ from Calum Launchbury.  The Eagles drove the Bosworth defence backwards and surging forward drives allowed Tommy Collingwood to give the Eagles a deserved 20 points to zero lead.  The Eagles were not in the mood to allow MB anything and they ‘preston’ in the second half. The performance was an example of teamwork, effort and flare rugby at its best, as they ‘rose’ to ‘bury’ Bosworth.  Tommy Collingwood and Joshua Hart completed hat tricks early on and a driving ‘hot pot’ of a move involving new boy Nadam Cox, Sam Willets and Joel Dolman open the MB defence for Alex Dutoy to score.  The final play of the game saw Connor Wood finish a fantastic passing move involving several Eagles forwards.  Market Bosworth failed to ‘oldham’ and had to ‘settle’ for second place in this game.

Man of the Match:      Tommy Collingwood

Match 4: Market Bosworth A 5 v Burton Eagles 30

Tries: Joshua Hart 4, Tommy Collingwood, William Hulbert

This game saw the Eagles up against very physical looking Market Bosworth outfit.  Magnificent defensive teamwork and a last gasp tackle by Connor Wood kept the early MB surges out.  Eventually a try was awarded to MB despite the efforts of Sam Willets, Joshua Hart and Alex Dutoy on the try line.  However, the Eagles are not a team to role over and wave the ‘white’ flag.  Hard tackles tested the ‘pudding’ and eventually pressure managed to turn over ball.  Quality passing and driving by Nadam Cox, Joel Dolman and Calum Launchbury opened the MB defence and Joshua Hart ran in 2 tries to give the Eagles a narrow first half lead.  With the downhill slope in the second half, together with the desire to build upon first half ‘leeds’ the Burton Eagles took full advantage and put Market Bosworth to the ‘sword’.  Tommy Collingwood scored with a straight surging run and Joshua Hart shot like an ‘arrow’ through the MB defence and completed yet another hat trick of tries.  This was again the result of brave defence and a stunning tackle by Connor Wood mid way through the half.  MB were looking ragged and well beaten before the move of the game.  The final try typified the Eagles teamwork performance as both Callum Launchbury and Sam Willets tackled the big MB centre, Joshua Hart and Tommy Collingwood drove turned over ball at the MB defence before a passing move involving Connor Wood, Nadam Cox and Alex Dutoy allowed William Hulbert to score the try.

Man of the Match:      Joshua Hart

Another fantastic performance by the Eagles as they go from strength to strength.  The coaches were very pleased and even showed some ‘whit by’ suggesting that coaches are able to ‘boycotte’ the age old tradition of buying a round when their sons score hat tricks.  Well done Eagles crowned kings of the day.

Eagles Man of the Series:      Tommy Collingwood
