Burton Falcons @ Coalville Festival on Oct 7th 2007

The Falcons under 9’s produced a fine display of rugby at the Coalville Festival. The matches were played from a pool of four teams. The winners of each pool meeting in semi-finals and a final.

The opening game saw the Falcons take on Towcester. This was a tight, hard fought game producing a 0-0 score-line at full-time. Oliver Corbett and James North played very well but man of the match went to Jacob Abraham for his superb tackling.

Falcon’s second game was against Oadby Wyggs. Tries for Jacob Abraham, Dominic Phillips and Daniel Grimsdell settled this one 15 points to nil, Grimsdell being selected man of the match.

The final pool game for the Falcons was played against Nuneaton. Try scorers being Oliver Corbett (2) Daniel Grimsdell (1) and James North (2) The match ended 25-0 to the Falcons, James North taking man of the match.

The Falcons proceeded to the semi-final to play Nottingham, without conceding a try.
Despite more excellent defensive play and tough tackling from Dominic Phillips, Cameron Scobie, Craig Plummer, Lewis Kenney and Jacob Abraham, Nottingham scored a winning try in the last minute of extra-time.
Josh Wright had demonstrated superb running throughout the day but Burton’s man of the match, and man of the festival, was undoubtedly Daniel Grimsdell for his energetic running, tackling and never say die attitude.

Well done Falcons! A fine effort in only conceding one try but winning 3 out of 4 games.
