Bham Civil Service 15 Burton Vets 15
on 8th December 2007
Burton Vets visited Elmdon to play Birminham Civil Service and came away with a good result after a close match saw each side score fifteen points. After the journey the game started badly for Burton as they allowed the Servants to score two quick unconverted tries but before the break Antonio Nel put them back in the game with a well struck penalty from 30 metres out into the wind.
The restart saw Burton’s bigger pack pile on the pressure with Darren Golder, Chris Samways and Melv Gilbert to the fore ably supported by the ubiquitous partners in crime Rob Ridley and Andy Betteridge. Their effort set up good quick ball that saw Ant Hewitt race in for an early score to bring the scores to 10-8, but the Servants hit back when a dubious knock-on was allowed and saw their winger race in to ground the ball.
Burton were not deterred despite yet more unhelpful decisions that were awarded against them and once again Ridley and Betteridge were on hand to snatch a loose ball after dumping their man and quickly set Huw Davies off down the touch line. But with his path blocked by a very large second row forward he chipped over him and saw Andy Molloy race on to the ball and touch down for a try. Davies converted to end an enjoyable but close fought contest in a 15-15 draw.
