Edwardians 3rds 0 Burton Vets 26 on 20th October 2007
Burton Vets travelled to play Edwardians 3rd team on Saturday and came away worthy winners by 26-0 after a good, well-natured game of rugby in which they scored four tries.
Ant Hewitt scored the first of these as he used his pace to race down the touchline to score in the corner after barely 2 minutes play. Playing behind a superior pack has never been a problem for Tony Williams and he soon demonstrated his prowess when he broke blind to dummy and swerve his way passed four defenders before touching down under the posts for Kev Wrathall to convert.
So leading 12-0 at the break Burton carried on where they had left off in the second half with powerful forward surges by Chris Samways, Darren Golder and Colin Wood causing the opposition all sorts of headaches. This constant pressure soon paid dividends as the ever supporting Rob Ridley popped up on Dave Brown’s shoulder to take a pass and scamper in from 25 metres out for another try under the posts for Wrathall to again convert.
To finish the scoring Paul Davis came on and after following up one of his own kicks saw the bounce completely out-foxed the defenders and he trotted in for a try that he converted himself to give Burton a well deserved 26-0 victory.
