Apart from a try by Andy Malloy converted by Kevin Wrathall Burton Vets found themselves completely outplayed by a younger, fitter and more organised Leek 2nd team in this hastily arranged fixture. Burton never gave up with Chris Samways, Colin Wood and Andy Betteridge forever chasing and harrying their opponents, while threequaters Nigel Cookson, Tony Williams and Ant Hewitt never stopped tackling their opposite numbers. But at the end of the day the Vets had no answers to the pace of the opposition and must now be looking forward to a well earned break next week, when they can get embroiled in other, more suited activities as they watch England try to repeat their final success over Australia in the World cup.
