Burton Vets 18 Rolls Royce Extras 10 on 3rd November 2007

Burton Vets played a Rolls-Royce squad containing a mixture of Vets and second team players that numbered 10 more than the victorious Burton side, who put this numerical disadvantage behind them as they showed that true team spirit beats everything. The visitors were first to open their account as they converted a penalty for Burton being offside at a ruck. But the hosts soon hit back with a dazzling run down the wing by ‘Ant’ Hewittt who fended off some tackles with his awesome hand-off as he scored in the corner. Rolls-Royce came back with a converted try just before the break to take a 5-10 lead at half time.

Burton struck back in the second half as Andy Betteridge used his support skills to pop up in the right place at the right time to take an inside pass off Huw Davies to dive over the line for a try. Before a Kevin Wrathall penalty put Burton in the lead at 13-10. The fifteen man Burton squad now upped the pace and with Chris Samways, Darren Golder and Colin Wood all making ground with powerful bursts it wasn’t long before another Burton score was produced. Dave Brown picked up a loose ball and fed Wrathall who made twenty metres before slipping a great pass to Matt Molloy who sprinted thirty metres for a great try and finish to the match leaving Burton victors by 18-10.
