Sutton Coldfield 4ths 17 Burton Vets 24
on 20th October 2007
Burton Vets recorded their second successive victory with a hard but well-earned victory over Sutton Coldfield. Bolstered by a few ‘B’ team players amongst their replacements the Vets travelled full of well-founded confidence and came home having again scored four tries. Firstly Matt Molloy showing great dexterity conjured up a score from nothing as he picked up a loose ball and raced twenty metres to touch down for Kev Wrathall to convert. But the hosts hit back with some strange refereeing decisions that produced two converted tries and a penalty to take a 17-7 lead at half-time.
Burton struck back in the second half as ‘Ant’ Hewitt used his pace to twice race down the touchline and score to put Burton level with fifteen minutes to play. Then the old partnership of Huw Davies and Ian Weakford combined to benefit from some great forward work by Dave Brown and Chris Samways that saw Rob Ridley race clear to feed them the ball. The pair interpassed for some forty metres before Weakford darted in to score under the posts for Wrathall to convert to give Burton a comfortable 17-24 win.
