With a home fixture after five away ones Burton had high hopes of returning to winning ways but yet again the age of the opposition resulted in more pace than the ageing Burton legs could handle and they went down 35-10.

Burton started brightly and a great forward surge by Neil Gilbert, Darren Golder and the returning Chris Samways set up a maul on the opposition 22 and Adie Bullock shipped out quick ball to Ian Weakford who rounded his man to score in the corner. Unfortunately this only served to wake up the opposition as they replied with a four try burst to take a 20-5 lead at the break.

Sutton continued were they left off and added a further three tries to take a commanding 35-5 lead but Burton wouldn’t lie down and fought back against the overwhelming odds of youth and pace. Ben Waldron snatched up a loose ball on his own 10-metre line to start a move that involved Andy Betteridge, Mel Gilbert, Dave Brown and Darren Golder before Waldron again received the ball to touch down for a try and take the score to a more respectable 35-10.
