Burton Vets 20 Whittington 2nds 26 on 8th September 2007
With some twenty players Burton hoped for a good result against Whittington but with the visitors arriving short and being given 3 players they then recruited Burton’s Ben Waldron from the touchline and a score from him became Burton’s Vets un-doing. Burton started well and with tries from Tony Williams and Kev Billings they soon had a 10-0 lead but Whittington hit back with three tries and two conversions to take a 10-19 lead into half time.
Once again Burton started the better of the two sides and tries from Andy Betteridge and Matt Molloy seemed to give Burton victory as they repelled any Whittington attacks. But with two minutes remaining up strode Ben Waldron and he raced through a flagging Burton defence to touch down under the posts and convert his own try to help inflict a 20-26 defeat on his own club mates.
